Butterfly Repeat

July challenge at A Blog Named Hero is to Repeat Yourself. I pulled out an old Hero Arts set and stamped a trio of butterflies.

http://ablognamedhero.com/2021/07/july-challenge-repeat-yourself/

I used a stamp and die set labeled Hero Arts/Sizzix Butterflies 3; I saw it on Amazon labeled Antique Butterflies. It comes with flowers and 3 sizes of butterflies in red rubber stamps along with matching dies. I chose the largest butterfly to stamp and die cut.

I used Gina K Designs inks in the colors Blue Lagoon, Coral Reef, and Tranquil Teal. I used Tranquil Teal cardstock for the layer you see. I used a Stampin’ Up Ornate Floral 3D embossing folder to add florals to the background. the butterflies are stamped and embossed with clear embossing powder and popped up for dimension.

I chose to leave the greeting off of the front as I really have no room for one. It has been a long time since I have pulled out my Hero Arts stamps and I enjoyed using them. They were the first brand of stamps that I purchased 20 years ago.

CAS Butterfly Mini

I love color challenges and knew I had the colors for the current CAS Colors & Sketches challenge. The colors are Crushed Curry, Pumpkin Pie, and Cajun Craze all Stampin Up Regal Colors.

http://cascoloursandsketches.blogspot.com/2021/07/challenge-427-color.html

I used stamps and dies from My Favorite Things for the butterflies and greeting, Spread Your Wings. As I looked I found we had very old inks for each of these colors and two of the markers, one of which is almost worn out. I used matching cardstock to cut the butterfly base. I inked the butterflies with Versamark ink and either the SU ink pad, marker, or a substitute color. I substituted Faded Brick by Gina K Designs for Cajun Craze. It is not an exact match but worked well inked on vellum and placed over the cardstock. The patterned paper is a retired set in the pumpkin pie color. I added a few gems from my stash and called the card complete.

Birdbath Hello

Today is the day to post the Crafter’s of Faith card for this month’s theme. This month’s verse is Philippians 4:4-7 which begins with the words Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! Then it goes on to say to create a card to show rejoicing in God. These days, I hear birds the minute I wake up and they continue throughout the day and into the night with the owls. I chose a card that rejoices in the nature God created.

I followed an idea of Lisa Mears a designer for The Stamps of Life. The sky is stenciled in yellows using Lawn Fawn inks with a blending brush and the stencil from Buddy Bonnie. I used my new Make Art Station which held the paper perfectly and made stenciling quite easy. All images were stamped with Memento Tuxedo Black ink and colored with alcohol markers. I fussy cut everything. I created the scalloped border with dies from two different companies. The scalloped portion is a Gina Marie die and I wanted a frame, so used a rectangle die from Catherine Pooler Designs. The stamp sets used are birdbath2stamp and morebirdbath2stamp by The Stamps of Life. I could add gems, run a vine up the birdbath, but I think I will leave as it. This makes it easy to mail.

MSC Spring has Sprung

This card is for the Mod Squad Challenge Beautiful Butterflies. I used the March Sheetload of Cards Sketch while creating this card.

https://modsquadchallenge.com/beautiful-butterflies/

The paper used is from Lawn Fawn. When I have placed an order with this company, they include patterned paper with the order. This was one sheet, front and back both used on this card. Another sheet was used for a layer behind the floral and for the scalloped circle. The butterfly and greeting are from the set Spring has Sprung illustrated by Rupa Shevde for Gina K Designs. It is long ago retired.

I like this sketch. I may make a few more with the spring, Easter idea.

Progressive Cardmaking Class 2 Day 4

This day was about inlaid die cutting and jazzing up those dies.

I created a beginner card. I had this butterfly die set out, so decided to use it for this card. The set has a detailed die as well as a solid layer, which is often called a shadow. I cut the shadow out of vellum to had a place to glue the detailed pieces of the other die cut. I glued the black butterfly outline to the vellum, then after cutting the detailed die out of patterned paper, I left the patterned paper in the die. I placed the patterned paper over the black butterfly, using a glue pen, applied the pieces one at a time. I found it easier to keep the pieces in the die, dab the glue to the vellum, then press the pieces into the black piece with a pokey tool. I hope this makes sense. In the class, she was using a sticky ended pick-up tool to grab each piece, add a dab of glue than place the piece into the die cut. Both ways work, but I found it easier to not pull each piece out before applying the glue.

My butterfly needed movement and I had a stamp set laying there with this movement image. In the class for the intermediate or advanced lesson, she used Nuvo drops to add color into her detailed die cut. I am a novice at Nuvo drops and own one bottle, so I used it on the motion image. I thought it was clear, but it seemed to have color. I added shimmer to the butterfly. I have done inlaid die cutting before, but not with this image and it has been quite a while.

Butterfly Birthday Wishes

I love butterflies and the current Double D Challenge is all about butterflies. Mix the butterflies with white space and it works perfectly for the August challenge at Gina K Designs. Throw in a bit of blue, and Simon Says Stamp challenge comes into the mix. Using stamps older than a year plays right into the current Retro Rubber Stamp challenge.

I used Gina K Designs stamps Sending Love and Stampers Favorites. Sending Love was released in 2016 and Stampers Favorites was released in 2014. I used the colors Lipstick, Wild Dandelion, and Blue Lagoon. I added a bit of sparkle with the Crafter’s Companion clear sparkle pen.

Butterfly Window

I have been creating cards for challenges on Split Coast Stampers lately. Here is a card for the MISTI challenge and a Thursday challenge.

Butterfly Window

This month’s MISTI challenge is to make a summery window card. Then there was a Thursday challenge to make a one-layer card, so both challenges work perfectly together.

The windows were cut with SU dies that match the Butterfly Basics stamp set and the Watercolor Wings set, all retired product. I began with the windows then placed the matching butterfly in front of the window opening in my MISTI. I opened the card front and leaving it flat. I stamped the butterflies in bright colors. Then closed the MISTI, laid the body on the butterflies, then opened the card again to stamp it. I wanted the body there, but not on the colorful images. I added a flower from the Layered Daisies set from Gina K Designs along with the sentiment. I popped the small butterfly on the flower and walked away.

I came back the next day or so, kept looking at the white background and didn’t like it. Then I remembered a cloud stencil, from Bonnie, that worked perfectly. I added blue clouds to the sky, then needed green for grass. I didn’t have a grass stencil and didn’t want to keep thinking of ways to get grass and leave the card flat. I have a punch and a die, but both will give elevation to the grass and I was thinking I didn’t want dimension on the grass, so I used the cloud die. I thought it gave the illusion of grass.

I like the card. It took a while to finish, but I think whoever I send it to will enjoy it. Thanks for reading my process.

Spring has Sprung

I had fun with many colors, making a Spring card. This card fits several challenges.

I used two sets from Gina K Designs on this card: Spring Has Sprung, A Wish For You. I used many colors of Gina K Designs ink to create the rainbow of butterflies. I love Spring cards, so they are always a joy to create.
