CAS Butterfly Mini

I love color challenges and knew I had the colors for the current CAS Colors & Sketches challenge. The colors are Crushed Curry, Pumpkin Pie, and Cajun Craze all Stampin Up Regal Colors.

I used stamps and dies from My Favorite Things for the butterflies and greeting, Spread Your Wings. As I looked I found we had very old inks for each of these colors and two of the markers, one of which is almost worn out. I used matching cardstock to cut the butterfly base. I inked the butterflies with Versamark ink and either the SU ink pad, marker, or a substitute color. I substituted Faded Brick by Gina K Designs for Cajun Craze. It is not an exact match but worked well inked on vellum and placed over the cardstock. The patterned paper is a retired set in the pumpkin pie color. I added a few gems from my stash and called the card complete.

Hummingbird in Flight

Today is the day I post my card for the Crafters’ of Faith group at Split coast Stampers. This month’s verse is: Isaiah 40:31 But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.
Challenge–please make a card that highlights anything with wings–you decide what you want to showcase.

Birthday Hummingbird Panel
Birthday Hummingbird

I made two cards very similar. I have a good friend who is having a birthday in a week or so and her favorite color is purple. I used the hummingbirds for my something with wings.

Stamp sets used are A Touch of Ink for everything except the greeting. The greeting is from Four Season’s Floral. Both sets are Stampin’ Up. I colored each element with Spectrum Noir alcohol markers.

Christmas Poinsettia

Christmas in July is happening on many websites and video channels. I am joining with Gina K Designs Challenge and Shopping our Stash Weekly challenge with a poinsettia card.

I used Christmas Flower stamp and die set from Gina K Designs for this card. I layered the flower by stamping it 3 times and cutting layers from the flower and piecing them together with foam adhesive and glue dots. I added pearls to the center that I had colored with a gold gel marker.

Guest Designer for Retro Rubber Challenge

I am honored to be guest designing for the Retro Rubber Challenge Blog for the newest challenge. I was sent the sketch and it didn’t disappoint.

I chose Penny Black Sweet Thing dated 2009 on the wood block. The greeting comes from Paper Smooches Sentiment Sampler which was released in 2011. I chose turquoise for the background, cupcake, and strip highlight; I like it with the bright pink tones. I used gems from retired Stampin Up colors. With a white gel pen, I was able to add brightness to the cupcake sprinkles. I enjoyed using the sketch. Join me in this challenge using older product you probably have on hand.

Just Because

While the cardstock was out for the CAS Colors & Sketches Challenge #426, I made another card. This will be entered in the Simon Says Stamp Anything Goes Wednesday challenge.

I used the Floral Essence set and matching punch from Stampin Up. I also used the Tiny Textures set from Gina K Designs for texture on the flag and behind the flowers, but also for the greeting. I used all colors from the challenge and added gray as my neutral. This is an odd size card. I cut the stitched rectangles first and then the flag. It was all too large to fit on an A2 card so I made a 5 X 7 size card, but that was too much white space below the flag, so I trimmed it down. The finished card size is 5 X 6 or close to it. I will fit in a 5 X 7 envelope for mailing.

I enjoyed creating with these colors and sketch.

Owl Birthday

I began pulling out cardstock and ink colors to match for the CAS Colors & Sketch Challenge #426. I also found the Simon Says Stamp Wednesday Challenge is Anything Goes, so the following card will be entered in both places.

I followed the sketch using the colors Tangerine Tango, Pink Pirouette, and Peach Parfait. All of the cardstock colors were found in the containers inherited by my Mother, but she did not own the inks or markers for each of these colors. I did my best to match the inks and usable markers in other brands.

I used Gina K Designs Birthday Hoot set. I paper pieced the balloons with matching cardstock and colored the birthday hat and owl with markers. I struggle with leaving cardstock plain, so I added texture with embossing folders. I used Lifestyle Crafts Birthday set for the background and flag as it is a 2 folder set. I used the SU Subtle folder for the Tangerine Tango layer behind the owl. If course, the owl had to have googly eyes.

This is a fun card. I send quite a few birthday cards and have no idea who will receive this card.

June Challenge Your Stash

Today is the day to post cards for the Challenge Your Stash group at Split Coast Stampers. This month the challenge is to Make a project with a Tiger – or a wild cat of any sort: lion, puma, panther, cheetah–just not a domestic pet.

Birthday Lion

First of all, we are having stormy weather and sunshine is not in the forecast for several days. With that in mind, I did my best to get light with a daylight bulb and a few pieces of cardboard around the light. This card looks much better than the photograph will show, but you can see the blue and green.

I stenciled the clouds with a gifted stencil from a stamp buddy, using Lawn Fawn ink in a light blue color. I blended green ink on the ground then added grass with a darker green ink. The grass is from a Stampin Up set called Sending Sunshine; it is retiring on Wednesday so if you like it, get it now. The sun is from a Gina K Designs set called Own Kind of Beautiful; it is long ago retired. The regal lion comes from The Stamps of Life, lions2stamp with matching dies. I stamped the lion with Lawn Fawn and Gina K Designs ink in Kraft, Sandy Beach, Sunshine, and dark brown colors, then came back with Prismacolor pencils to add texture and the orange mane. I have never penciled on top of ink before, but it worked beautifully for the needed color. I chose a greeting from The Stamps of Life set and called the card finished.

Thanks for spending time with me and this lion.

Floral No Stamping

This card has no stamping. I used several punches and dies in creating the flowers and cardstock pieces.

I participate in a swap every few months with a few ladies. One person chooses a card idea to CASE and we all create a card that goes along with the idea. I chose to use patterned paper and cardstock from Hobby Lobby for the weaving pattern and flowers. I used three different punches to create the flower, then embossing it with the Cuttlebug Swiss Dots embossing folder. That gave it needed texture. The leaves were die cut with a Spellbinders die. I added a bit of ink and texture with an SU embossing folder. Then I thought it needed more, so I cut vellum leaves using the same die and MFT vellum cardstock. The Hi was a freebie from The Stamps of Life and it worked perfectly for the greeting. I didn’t like this on the plain white cardbase so used a gray from Stampin Up embossed with the Subtle folder.

When we decided on the card to CASE, the other ladies thought it would be easy to follow and not a lot of work. This took quite a few steps to create and turned out to more of a challenge than I thought. Now that I have made one, the others will be easier to create.

This card will be entered in the Just Us Girls No Stamping challenge.
