Playing with Color

Had some fun playing with Distress Oxide inks, yesterday.  I looked up the MFT Color Challenge and did a bit of mixing to get colors that worked for it.  Then, looked up the MFT Sketch challenge and used that to put it all together.  Added some stitches, so it would work for the Double D challenge, too.

This is what I wound up with after all that playing around:

7-12-20 DD MFT Anniversary

Did this as an anniversary card for my best friend and her husband.  I think she’ll enjoy it.  Her husband might.

So Not Me

This card is so not my style.  I planned it for a friend who likes unicorns and gave the set to me.  It started with a Double D Challenge to show stitches and my coming across this piece of patterned paper that had stitches die cut into it.  No clue where the die came from, as I didn’t know I had it, so it may be that I borrowed someone else’s and this is what was left after a project.

7-11-20 DD Stitched

I used one Zig water color marker (pink), and some Chameleon markers I had.  Added a bit of colored pencil in here and there, as well as some Sakura Stardust pens.  Put some sparkle on the mane, tail, wings, and around the rainbow and clouds.  (The sparkle, of course, does not show up in the picture.)  Inked around my image, adhered the pp over the top and called it done.  I’m not thrilled with it.  Colored pencils are so much more my way of coloring.  I am trying to use markers more.  It is what it is.

Phases 8-10

Phase 8 is Rainbow:

5-16-20 Phase 8 Rainbow

The shiny clouds are made using some Cosmic Shimmer Opal Blaze Polish in Pink Blueberry.  I am absolutely loving the Opal Blaze Polishes.

Phase 9 is Window:

I did 2 different type of window examples.  The dragon is stamped on black with a white pigment ink, then colored using different of the Opal Blaze Polishes.  Definitely had fun with these.

Phase 10 is to do a 2 Fer:  Make 1 panel/piece, cut it in half and make 2 cards out of it.

Here’s one of my panels 5-16-20 Phase 10 2 Fer Panel

And the 2 cards I made using it

5-16-20 Phase 10 2 Fer 2 More of the Opal Blaze Polishes were used on the panel.

Here’s another example

So many ways to interpret all of these Phases.

Phases 5-7

Here are the next few phases.

Phase 5 Pull Tab/Movement

Here it is open

I really like this one.

Phase 6 Leftovers (use those pieces you have laying around from other things you’ve made)

5-10-20 Phase 6 Leftovers

As a lot of my pieces were from MFT, I used their Sketch Challenge for this week to base this on.

Phase 7 Upcycle

Made 2 for this, both using pieces of tissue boxes.

5-10-20 Phase 7 Upcycle 2

Used more of those leftovers for this, too.  I wasn’t too thrilled with it, so made the next one.

5-10-20 Phase 7 Upcycle 1

Whew.  I’ll try and make the rest of the phases this week, but want to get most of these sent out in tomorrow’s mail, so need to get writing and addressing.

Thanks for spending some of your valuable time with me today.  Have a great rest of your day and week.

Phases 1-4

I’m getting ready to host a challenge on WeCraftCards.com on May 18.  We decided to do the challenges for May and June based on games.  I chose Phase 10 for my game, so I’ll wind up doing 10 cards as examples for the 10 phases.  Wanted to share what I’ve been working on.

Phase 1 is Monochromatic.

As Double D challenges has a purple challenge going, and ModSquad has a “Mother” challenge going, decided to make this one work for those.

5-9-20 Phase 1 Monocromatic

When I do monochromatic, I only use shades of 1 color, no neutrals.  For this, I used:

  • My Favorite Things Wood Plank Background stamp
  • Gina K Designs Lovely Lavender card and ink
  • Gina K Designs Holiday Frame Set and Holiday Frame Fillers Set by Melanie Muenchinger
  • Gina K Designs Wild Lilac ink
  • Ranger Distress Ink in Picket Fence
  • Recollections Floral Embellishments

Phase 2 is to use Foil

5-9-20 Phase 2 Foil

I had so much fun with this one.  I used Queen & Company foam pieces.  These are the pieces you punch out, when you use one of their foam frames.  The fish is made from the mermaid tail punch out and the “waves” are from a chevron punch out.  I used the top and bottom’s, so they were flat on top as I was looking more for a river than ocean waves.  Used foil on the sticky parts of the foam pieces.

Phase 3 is Texture

5-9-20 Phase 3 Texture

My friend Bonnie always has so much texture on her cards, I tried to do as she does.  Mine is not so pretty, but it’s a fun mess.  For some reason, spray bottles do NOT like me.  I went to use my Ranger Distress Spray and it wouldn’t spray.  I had a stencil down, but as I had to pull the sprayer out (tried cleaning it out with hot water, which didn’t work) and just fling it over the stencil.  You can see the white splotches, which are texture.  I used different water color powders on the card and sprayed.  Mopped up the extra with some tissue paper I’ve had on my desk for this the past two times I’ve used watercolors.  There’s a piece of that tissue paper ripped and glued along the top left corner.  Sprinkled a bit of metallic watercolor on there (yellow dots).  Then, used another stencil and some Nuvo Embellishment Mousse (top right corner).  Yikes!  That was a mess, as my mousse has gotten too dry.  Was able to add enough water to make it work.  Cut the sentiment strip and the “you” out of shimmer paper and embossed the “thinking of” with glitter embossing powder.  There’s an unbelievable amount of texture in this and I really like it.  There’s a lot of shine, too.  Did, however, ruin my shorts, as the fan in the room was on when I used the watercolor powder.  Oops!  Good thing they’re my cleaning shorts.

Phase 4 is a Shaker

5-9-20 Phase 4 Shaker

Used a Queen and Company kit for this one.  I had some other fun papers I had planned to use, but thought the family I’m sending this too would enjoy the glitter card, better.

I started Phase 5, but wanted to get these up.  Hopefully I’ll be able to work on that one tomorrow, as well as the rest of my phases.

Thanks for spending some of your valuable time with me today!  Have a wonderful Mother’s Day tomorrow.  (If you’re reading this afterwards, hope your day was special.)

Hoot-a-nanny

WeCraftCards.com had a pen and ink challenge this week, which had to do with Zentangling.  I made this and thought it would be perfect for the current ModSquad challenge of birds.

4-15-20 ModSqad Bird

I’m not all that fond of Zentangle, but I kind of like the way this turned out, as it reminds me of wood.

Thanks for spending some of your valuable time checking this out.

Ideas

So MFT came out with a pretty Card Kit, recently.  I like it and everyone that has gotten it absolutely loves it, but I was thinking I could do something similar with different stamps.  So, I used the Beautiful Bloom stamp and Hello Beautiful sets that were a card kit last summer to create this card with the same ideas from this new kit.  I used a piece that I did a while back with different Ken Oliver Color Bursts and embossed the flower in white ink on top.

After cutting the flower out using the die, I cut out the word “Beautiful from the Hello Beautiful set.  I used silver, but realized it wouldn’t look good just on top of the flower, so cut out the background for it in a dark blue that was similar to the darkest color in the watercolor piece.

6-30-19 MFT Sketch 3

This is what I wound up with and I really like it.  I used my Cuttlebug to do all the die cutting and some Gina K Connect glue for adhering everything.

Thanks for spending some of your valuable time with me today!

Imagination!

I really like the Concord and 9th sets: Fashion Wear and Winter Wear.  I wanted to frame a face with flowers, so I used pieces from the Gina K Designs Wreath Builder set, the Autumn Wreath Builder set, and the Mandala Maker set.  Granted, had I started with the piece in a different position, I wouldn’t have had to angle it, but I really like the way it turned out.  Definitely had fun with it and I really like the way it turned out.

6-2-19 SSS E Bday

Just wanted to share this with you.  My computer is being a bit finicky today, or I would put links to everything.

Thanks for spending some of your time with me today.

Birthday Sketch

Here’s a birthday card for a friend that I did following the current MFT Sketch challenge.  Definitely had fun with it.

5-27-19 MFT Sketch

My friend likes orange, so found a way to use that.  Here is the inside:

Just wanted to share it and I know she sees my blog, so I was very glad to be a part of Stamp Buddies and be able to share on here.
