Holiday Card Workshop 2022

Day 7’s sessions were all about embossing folders. Koren Wiskman’s session was Spotlight Ink Blending + Embossing Folders. Using SSS A2 Masks, I ink blended Distress Oxide inks in Twisted Citron, Mowed Lawn and Rustic Wilderness going from light in the center to dark outside. This panel was then run through my Big Shot (still working with protest — LOL) using SSS Holiday Greenery embossing folder. The die cut sentiment is Spellbinders and added a SSS Christmas Foilage die in red. The embossed panel is very subtle but it’s nice that the entire panel is embossed.

The “extra credit” session was presented by Laura Bassen in which to create an ink blended pattern + embossing folder. For this card, I went back to a Taylored Expressions Plaid stencil using DO Evergreen Bough, Festive Berries and Black Soot. My first thought was to use versamark and gold embossing powder on the black lines but I was too impatient to wait for the ink to dry so went with black soot.

The embossing folder is from Sizzix. I embossed a piece of white card stock and fussy cut the center section of this embossing folder and adhered it to my card front. The stamp set is AI Penguin Joy and how surprised was I when my upper and lower flourish nestled the sentiment very nicely. Using the same inks, I added color to the holly and berries.

A very traditional Christmas color day for me. I think I like the second plaid card the best and, wow, I actually think my lines look straight. It was a good day!

Holiday Card Workshop 2022

Today’s classes were all about Tiny Stamps. My card today is a CASE of Kristina Werner’s card to create a circle stencil for the background. I decided on softer inks in SSS Seafoam and GKD’s Lovely Lavender and Bubblegum pink. I searched my stash for tiny stamps and while I may have had bits and pieces on several stamp sets the Stampin Up Merry Crittermas stamp set was the only one that carried the same theme. After stamping, coloring and fussy cutting, I added them to my card layering on a piece of pink cardstock but inking the edges with bubblegum pink ink. The alternate class by Chari Moss was Teeny Tiny Backgrounds. She had great samples but I had an extra busy day so my extra credit did not get completed. LOL.

I signed up for the Taylored Expressions Stamp Joy Fall on line stamp class. The class included this Scenic Route Quad stencil. So much fun to use these quad stencils. Four different stencils and when you are finished ink blending you have four different backgrounds. Very clever. On two of the backgrounds, we used a second stencil to ink in the same color on a section of the quad and the technique for the Happy Birthday card is to lightly spray that background after ink blended and cut apart with Pixie spray then take a piece of foil (the type for a laminator) and lay it on top lightly pressing on the foil. It leaves little bits of foil on your background. So no splatter needed. It was a fun class and I enjoy working with these quad stencils. Now I need suggestoins for different inks.

Holiday Card Workshop 2022 – Saturday Bonus Day — Using Leftover diecuts!

Kristina Werner’s bonus class this morning instructed us on how to use leftover diecuts. Day 1 was all about plaids and I had cut down a portion of my plaid to die cut a tree to be used on that card. However, that was pretty much a fail but I held onto the piece of plaid with the tree die cut out of it and opted to use it for my shaker tag. I die cut my panel in the plaid and a scrap piece of red card stock, added a shiny die cut star from scraps on my work area to complete this tag. So far no sequins have escaped.

Holiday Card Workshop 2022 – Day 5 Using Scraps

Our class today which was instructed by Jennifer McGuire and our challenge was to Use Scraps. She gave us sampels making paper folded trees, ornaments and gift packages using our scraps. I decided to make the folded ornament on my card using four different shades of cardstock scraps, folding and then gluing them to a smaller circle die, stamping and gold heat embossing. I found a topper die, and a bow die and die cut from scraps. My background was made using an arched stencil and some splatter. Sentiment strip from GKD, I think.

The second instructor, Koren Wiskman, created Striped Christmas Trees using paper strips in various sizes and adhering to a piece of copy paper then die cutting. I added one glittery tree and a star cut from scraps too. I have enough striped paper to die cut at least 2 more trees. Tree die was Her Arts Joann’s Kit.

Holiday Card Workshop 2022 – Day 4 Ink Blending

Today’s class was instructed by Kristina Werner and all about ink blending. Her sample slimline tree card was adorable but I opted to go with some pinks using Distress Oxide inks in Milled Lavender, Victorian Velvet and Pumice Stone for my Gina K Designs Winter Flower stamp and die set. The flowers were inked in versamark ink and heat embossed with gold embossing powder. My leaves were from the DO green blended panels I made earlier today. As I needed something for my background, I decided to pull out PinkFresh Studio Diagonal Plaid stencil and inked with the Milled Lavender and Pumice Stone. It’s more pumice stone than milled lavender but hopefully it set off my poinsettias better.

The second session was taught by Dana Joy and it was all about Inked Backgrounds and the tip was to start with colored cardstock then blend from the top and bottom two different shades of ink. For my background, I used Gina K’s Turquoise Sea cardstock and inked Tranquil Teal from the top and Navy from the bottom. I arranged snowflakes from SSS Snowflake Season January 2021 kit, stamped in versamark ink and heat embossed with Taylored Expressions Diamond embossing powder and added a little copic white reinker splatter to the front.

Holiday Card Workshop 2022 – Day 3 Fast Backgrounds!!!

Gel Press Printing — Lydia Fiedler was the instructor in today’s class and it was all about gel press printing. I did create a lot of prints and didn’t throw any of them away so on top of my very inky fingers and messy workspace I did accomplish the task. We were intructed how to use alcohol inks, die cuts and actual metal dies for impressions and to lift an image to add white acrylic paint to achieve a lift. Some attempts were successful and some were not as successful. It was a busy day. For this card I used Birch Press Nativity Star String Art die.

The following cards used a SSS Detail Pincushion Plate, a snowflake die from my stash and extra dies and sentiments. My good old Big Shot is on it’s last legs so I was digging through my stash for a lot of items. Will is take it apart tomorrow to see what the issue may be. I just hope it holds out until I can find a deal on a new die cutting machine.

The last purple card with Santa’s sleigh is the actual die cut over a lift image of the same die that was my practice try and the Happy Holidays purple is the lift that worked much better. I completed 5 cards and have 8 extra pieces of backgrounds that I will save for future cards.

And for extra credit, Nathifa Sligh created backgrounds using Tim Holtz tapes and Distress Crayons. I don’t have Distress Crayons and have been using my washi tape to for other purposes but did have collage paper that I added to cardstock. A little glue, a little clear gesso, a little splatter but the collage paper says it all.

The Holiday Card Workshop 2022 Day 2 classes were all about Plaids. Kristina Werner demonstrated making plaid cards several different ways. For my plaid card, I used Taylored Expressions Gingham Rotating Stencil on a salmon cardstock and inked in red ink then turned and inked in black ink. A SimonSaysStamp Felicity Snowflake die is my center point and then couldn’t decide on a sentiment so just popped a little gem stone in the middle. The tiny kraft stars and trees were part of an unbranded die set.

Mindy Eggen’s portion of Day 2 instructed us to create our plaid using masks which she demonstrated using Gina K’s masking magic. I cut down some 1/4″ strips of masking magic and then spent the next 45 minutes trying to get the release paper off and mask my cardstock diagonally. Using GKD’s light and dark spruce ink, my plaid section was completed and cut down. The trees are from ArtC stamp & die set, however, I am not loving them. I think it may be the plaid tree that I’m not liking….Suggestions, welcome. Sentiment was from Verve stamps O Christmas Tree stamp set.

Holiday Card Workshop 2022 – Day 1 Die Cutting

Jennifer McGuire’s class today was Faux Laser Cut Cards. It was fun and relatively easy to follow once I decided on all of the supplies from my stash. Primarily how to add extra die cuts to a large open die cut area. She made an A2 and a 5×7 card but I opted to stick with the A2. My card uses SimonSaysStamp Holiday Frames die and Tim Holtz greenery dies.

Day 1 – Layers of Die-Cuts

This is an “extra credit” card taught by Dawn Wolesagle to created layered die cuts and add more dimension by adding ink to the die cut pieces. It was a fun card. I had one poinsettia die in my stash however it didn’t include any embossed lines so my poinsettia may be a little on the plain side. The frames were cut using Taylored Expressions Frame in Frame 3 cutting plate, Tim Holtz Festive Trims dies, SimonSaysStamp Christmas Foilage and sentiment from Gina K Designs’s Winter Flower.
