The current challenge at Mod Squad is to keep your card with a simple focus, one image and no embellishments, or the card will be removed. I took this challenge and it was not as easy as it sounded.

This card was created using the set Friendship Blooms with was a collaboration of Hero Arts and Gina K Designs. I colored the images with Prismacolor Pencils and used Stampin’Up Crumb Cake cardstock. I heat embossed with GKD Detail White embossing powder.

I found this challenging as I wanted to add glitter to the flowers and possibly gems to draw the eye down the page better. But I left it alone.

Before this card I had worked on another card. This didn’t make the cut for the challenge.

After I finished coloring this image, I thought it needed something else, so I added clear sparkle to the flowers. Then I added gems. So, I was ready to post and read the directions again and this one didn’t make the cut. I totally love the card and mailed it, so someone will be able to enjoy it and hopefully it will bring a smile to her face when she opens it.

Continuing on with the challenges.

This card followed a tutorial. After following the tutorial, I kept thinking of easier ways to create. The tutorial showed a punch for cutting the circle and I used a die, as I do not own circle punches large enough. The box was assembled before placing the inside piece behind the circle. I think the inside could be place easier before closing the card. I struggled getting my piece in and ended up adding another piece to place the circle on to get it centered inside. The end is cute, but it was a struggle and I owned one piece of each paper being used.

I used the dragonfly2stamp from The Stamps of Life for the inside stamping and the front greeting. The dragonfly itself was fussy cut from patterned paper as I didn’t have the die that matched. The patterned paper is from Echo Park. The cardstock is SU.

The hostess for this challenge has an autistic son who love to feed the ducks every day. It is part of his life to go the park, feed the ducks, geese, or any animal he calls a duck. I used the set Spring Has Sprung from Gina K Designs and Simple Celebrate from Lawn Fawn to stamp and create this card. The pattern paper is Echo Park and the cardstock is Balmy Blue by SU. I had fun coloring this card.

This card was created using flowers2layer from TSOL. I had the background stamped waiting to be used so I stamped the greeting strip and finished a flower and leaves to add to the front. It was quick to create.

The idea for this challenge to show a form of transportation used at the park. I chose a bicycle. The stamps and dies are all from The Stamps of Life, bicycle2stamp and the grass die. I grabbed green colors from my stash and cut grass. The bicycle was stamp and cut waiting to be used. I did add the basket.

Spring Bunny

I pulled out a very old Penny Black stamp and created a card.

The main image is a woodblock stamp from Penny Black, Bees & Bunny, dated 2001. I colored it using alcohol markers like the sticker on the woodblock stamp. The greeting is illustrated by Claire Brennan, distributed by Gina K Designs, copyright 2017, Springtime Baskets. The patterned paper is Echo Park either a spring set or an Easter set; I have both and didn’t make a note telling me which set it came from.

MSC Spring has Sprung

This card is for the Mod Squad Challenge Beautiful Butterflies. I used the March Sheetload of Cards Sketch while creating this card.

The paper used is from Lawn Fawn. When I have placed an order with this company, they include patterned paper with the order. This was one sheet, front and back both used on this card. Another sheet was used for a layer behind the floral and for the scalloped circle. The butterfly and greeting are from the set Spring has Sprung illustrated by Rupa Shevde for Gina K Designs. It is long ago retired.

I like this sketch. I may make a few more with the spring, Easter idea.

February Sheetload of Cards

I have been watching Crafty Al and trying her Sheetload of Cards sketch and cutting layout for February. This month, I used both a 6 X 6 pad and 12 X 12 inch papers. Get comfortable as there are many cards with the sketch or a variation of it.

The above card was created with Carta Bella Home Again 6 X 6 pack of patterned paper. I did not own matching cardstock, so I used the back side of one of the patterns for the base layer. This card was mailed immediately after making it a few weeks ago.

The above card and all following use the Home Again 12 X 12 scrapbook paper with stickers pack. The cardstock colors are Islands Indigo and Blue Lagoon from Stampin Up retired. The ribbon matches, Blue Lagoon. The banners are embossed with one of the Greenery embossing folders from SU; it is a set of 2 folders. The greetings are all from Gina K Designs sets. Some of the cards have smaller print patterns and those are from the 6 X 6 pad.

That is the many cards I created. It is a fast process when the paper is all cut and ready to assemble. I changed some of the paper after being cut. One of the choices was a bit too dark, so I was swapping out a piece here and there. Overall I enjoyed creating the cards this way. Because I kept changing my mind, they are all different. The insides have a white layer with a strip of cardstock. Some have stickers for embellishment. All have room to write a message.

Progressive Cardmaking Class 2 Day 2

For someone who has been spending a lot of time in the stamp room, I seem to be slow getting my cards completed. Here is the intermediate card for Day 2. It is all about adding stripes to the card. This is intermediate as one needs to know something about color theory and combining colors that look pleasing to the eye.

This card was completed on Day 4 of the class, so some of the lessons are probably getting combined. I chose paper from my SU stash. I am not sure of the color names, as they were cut and I just began pulling them out and making strips. I think the colors work well together. The hello die is from Gina K Designs. I think it works for this card.

Progressive Cardmaking 2 Day 1

I am taking Progressive Cardmaking Class 2 with Justine Hovey at Altenew Academy. Each day covers 3 levels, beginner, intermediate, and advanced. As time permits, I hope to try all three of the ideas presented. Here are the cards I completed with Day 1.

The lesson for beginner showed using a stencil to color a vine. I do not own stamps and stencils that go together, so I chose a vine and colored the leaves with an alcohol marker. Then the lesson took the vine and cut it in pieces, then spread these out over a piece of cardstock. I trimmed my vine down, cut it into pieces, then added the greetings like shown in class. The first two greetings are from a SU set, and the last greeting is from a My Favorite Things set. As all pertained to birthday greetings, I thought they work together. I thought the black mat was a good addition to the card. The vine is from Gina K Designs. I am fairly sure all stamps used are retired except for the MFT one as it is still available in the store.

Emboss resist is the coloring method for intermediate stampers. Justine chose a large floral and embossed in white powder, then ink blended. I chose to emboss in gold as I knew it would pop, and it was laying there. I pulled out rose colors for my ink blending, all Lawn Fawn inks. I mounted the layer on white cardstock. Justine added a die cut greeting, but I think mine works without a greeting.

Masking was the Advanced Technique. I chose to use a stamp set from My Favorite Things and I have the die that matches the flowers. I used Gina K Designs masking paper and die cut the floral, then covered my floral before adding color. In class, Justine made a frame for the are around her flower. My flowers are larger than hers, so I added strips to the sides of the paper before adding color. I stamped this on watercolor paper and applied watercolor paint, rather than ink blend. The I added a die cut greeting as I think it needed something.

I am enjoying the class. I am sure I will learn new things to apply to my cards.

I made one more card for January Sheetload of Cards. I have enjoyed the sketch provided and have really enjoyed using what I have to create lovely cards.

I used Gina K Designs products for this card. I have had this patterned paper for a few years, so I decided to use it for this card layout. It came with the Flowers and Frames kit as did the stamp sets used. I had this rose stamped, die cut and placed with the set waiting to be used. I think it works wonderfully to add something to this card.

Fabulous Rose Frame in Yellow

When I stamp one frame, I usually stamp two. Both images stamped well, so I made two cards. This card was created for the MISTI challenge at Split coast Stampers. The challenge was that the card needed to have Yellow and say Hello. It could have other elements from the original card posted, but those were the two main elements.

I used the Fabulous Rose Frame with matching dies and the Amenome Wishes sets from Gina K Designs. I watched Melanie Muenchinger’s videos to learn how she colored the roses and ways to use the set. I made the belly band with Freshly Cut Grass ink from Lawn Fawn, then thought the card needed more yellow. I stamped another one from Sunflower ink, also from Lawn Fawn. The yellows all coordinate, even though the rose centers were stamped in GKD Wild Dandelion ink. I like the belly band with both colors showing. In enjoyed coloring the rose and leaves images.
