This began with a movie theme, Christmas Vacation, but I am not sure that this house really fits the house in the movie. I used an embossing folder to add trees to the background. I tried to add snow with white pigment ink and sparkle embossing powder. I added Nuvo sparkle to the tree and the house. I do like the card and it was fun to create. The stamp set used is Farmhouse Christmas by StampinUp.
Each quarter there is a virtual stamp night at Splitcoast Stampers. This time the theme is TV series. I worked on the mini challenges over several days.
Great Joy Christmas
This card was for 3rd Rock from the Sun and the challenge was to make a galaxy card. I chose to ink blend a background with Lawn Fawn inks. I splattered it with a couple of different white watercolor paints, but all that showed up is water droplets. I let it all dry then added the stamping the next day. This is a SU set called Every Blessing and the greeting I used is from a Maymay Made It set called Christmas Miracle. I have made several Christmas cards this year and I think this is my favorite. It hasn’t been mailed, yet.
Bee Well Soon
This card was created for a MASH theme where the challenge is to create a humorous Get Well card. I chose to use Paper Smooches Courteous Cuties. I kept it very simple with little coloring and a little ink blending.
Candy Cane Banner
This is for the TV Guide magazine. The challenge is to use only red, white, and one other color. I chose green as my other color. I had this banner in my stash for a couple of years, created from Echo Park Celebrate Christmas. I had this candy cane and bow in my stash for a couple of years, so it came out for my red and white. I added a bit of twine and called it good.
Each of these challenges has to be completed within one hour. The time to prepare does not count and you can use pre-colored images from your stash. I enjoy the challenges sometimes. The actual event is December 17 and 18. Usually there are two weeks or more to complete the challenges. Even if I do not participate in the actual event, I do enjoy the mini-challenges.
Thanks for spending time with me and reading this post.
First challenge is Mod Squad with the animal themed holiday. I made this deer to have a red nose like Rudolph. This is definitely a Christmas themed card with the lights and red nose. I didn’t have a suitable Merry Christmas that would really fit, so I went with the greetings from the stamp set. This stamp set is Snow Wonderful by Your Next Stamp.
Second Challenge is Double D with trees. This evergreen tree was blended with a stencil from Newton’s Nook, called Evergreen. I cut a small portion of the trees out to use on this card.
The Third challenge is Make My Monday Challenge with Cute Christmas. I think this image with the girl and her reindeer are cute. It was fun to color.
The Fourth challenge is Global Design Project with Christmas. This card will be mailed for Christmas.
The snowflake background was created with a die from The Stamps of Life. I used and glitter cardstock placed on a blue background. Nuvo White Blizzard Glitter Drops were added to the snowflakes, the tree, the lights, the reindeer nose, and the greeting.
This was fun card to create. I was thrilled to find several challenges to share this with. Thanks for looking and reading this long post.
I made a card with Falliday Fest and Splitcoast Stampers where the challenge is to place a gnome on the card for a holiday. I chose Christmas and made a punch art gnome.
Punch Art Christmas Gnome
I used paper from Celebrate Christmas with Echo Park for the background and greeting. The greeting is from a set from The Stamps of Life, snowglobe2stamp. I used punches to create the gnome. The feet are punched with SU Perennial Flower punch, the body with an SU Ornament punch, the nose with a 5/8 inch circle punch, and the beard with a leaf die from a hibiscus set, and the hat is a Spellbinders triangle die. I had a snowflake eyelet in my stash which worked for the hat decoration. The snowflake in the background is from a Cherry Lynn die. I had snowflake embellishment to add.
I had fun creating this. I found the directions from Dawn Olchefske on a Pinterest post.
I have been coloring penguins for the Gina K Designs challenge using critters on your card. The current challenge at Just Us Girls is a mini Slimline card, so I will add this card to that challenge.
I used the set Tis the Sea-Sun stamp set for the penguins and greeting. The inside reads Christmas. I made a mini-slimline card. I saw this idea on Pinterest from the blog hop posted when this was introduced in 2017, I think. Clair Brennan used this paper and paper pieced her penguins, so I followed her idea. They are fun critters to color and create a card with, but difficult to photograph when all we are having is gloomy days. The patterned paper is quite shiny, so I kept getting a glare. I think this is acceptable to post. It was fun to create. I am adding this to Just Us Girls Tend Week – mini Slimline cards.
I used two stamp sets in this card: SU Blended Seasons (2018) and GKD Christmas Greenery (2016). This card has a lot of gold on it as it is also part of the MISTI Monday Challenge at Splitcoast Stampers where the celebration of the 50th challenge is going on and gold is the theme.
The Blended Seasons stamp set is red rubber, so the foliage will not curve easily, so my wreath is not as round as a photopolymer stamp would produce. The gold in the bells and foliage were colored with a gold gel pen. I made my own gold paper with embossing powder.
I created a card to honor Rita at Split Coast Stampers as she is the Featured Stamper. I settled on a Christmas Wreath card to provide inspiration. I am posting this card to Simon Says Stamp Wednesday challenge where embossing must be used. I used heat embossing on this card.
I used the Stampin Up Arrange a Wreath die and a Spellbinders kit called Sparkling Christmas. In the kit are patterned papers, stamps, dies, foam adhesive, and double sided adhesive. I used the patterned paper and a matching piece of cardstock from the kit for the greeting. The solid green came from SU Subtle cardstock. Here is Rita’s card where I took the inspiration: https://www.splitcoaststampers.com/gallery/photo/3017509?&cat=500&ppuser=70873
Christmas in July is happening on many websites and video channels. I am joining with Gina K Designs Challenge and Shopping our Stash Weekly challenge with a poinsettia card.
I used Christmas Flower stamp and die set from Gina K Designs for this card. I layered the flower by stamping it 3 times and cutting layers from the flower and piecing them together with foam adhesive and glue dots. I added pearls to the center that I had colored with a gold gel marker.
I have been playing with Pearlescent watercolor paint. It is quite shiny and has a lot of shimmer when dry. This card will be posted to the Double D Poinsettia challenge and the Watercooler Wednesday challenge.
There was challenge at Splitcoast Stampers to watercolor using black watercolor paper. I wanted to try this, but didn’t want to make the purchase till I decided if I might enjoy the process. I used Hobby Lobby Extra Heavy Weight cardstock, which is at least 100 pounds. It held the watercolor nicely. When the images were all dry, I splattered the front with gold shimmer spray. I like the card and it will be mailed next year.
