A Yankee Doodle Card

I can’t tell you how long it’s been since I’ve been to a movie, so I’m not familiar with too many of the ones that have been made within the last 20 years. But I do have some favorites from long ago. One of my favorite movies is “Yankee Doodle Dandy” about the life of George M. Cohan, starring James Cagney. As I was creating a lot of patriotic cards yesterday on Flag Day, it occurred to me that one would be perfect to enter in the As You See It Reel Challenge. This card was really fun to create. I used the Fireworks Stamp and Stencil set from Taylored Expressions. I stamped the starry background in Blue Denim. Then lining up the first stencil, I brushed on Blue Denim to create the first part of the fireworks burst, then brushed on Red Velvet using the second stencil to complete the burst. The focal image is the flag map from the Old Glory set from The Stamp Simply Ribbon Store. The sentiment from the Patriotic Mini Strips set from Taylored Expressions was perfect over the flag map. As George M. said throughout the movie and at the end “My mother thanks you, my father thanks you, my sister thanks you, and I thank you”.

    1. Thanks Bonnie. With all the stuff that’s going on lately we all need something to celebrate.

    1. Thanks Lisa. You get the credit for this discovery. You posted about the plaid download on Susie’s blog. I went and ordered the plaid stencil (which I haven’t played with yet) then I got looking around the TE website and found the Fireworks stamps/stencil which was a bundled special including the Patriotic Mini Strips and it just snowballed from there.

  1. I love your fireworks and theme for your card, Judy. Well played! You do realize that I’ll be singing that song the rest of the day, don’t you.

  2. Thanks Lisa. That stamp/stencil set is really fun and way easier to use than I thought it would be

  3. Great card Judy and how fun you made it work with a movie too. Love it all and I am considering buying some of the stencils myself. Fireworks can work for any design in any colour so a good one to have on hand.

    1. Thanks Johanna. It is a fun set and the registration marks on the stamp and stencils make it so easy to line up.. The stamp is an interesting background even without the stencils. I think the stencils would be pretty with the Glitz Glitter Gel.

  4. Great card and great movie, Judy! That’s one of the best fireworks stamp images I’ve seen! Thanks for playing along with us at As You See It Challenges!

    1. Thanks. I love those fireworks. It was a bit of a challenge for me to come up with a card that would depict a movie.

    1. Thanks Leanne. Old movies are the best. I had a newer movie in mind but couldn’t think how to make a card for it. Then this one came to me.

  5. Beautiful layering of images to create your Yankee Doodle card. Thanks for playing along with us at As You See It.

  6. What a great patriotic card Judy – it has a great celebratory feel! I haven’t seen that movie, but sometimes the old ones are the best! Thanks for playing along with us over at As You See It this week!

    1. Thanks Joanne. Turner Classic Movies usually plays it around the 4th of July or check one of the other movie channels.
