The Sisterhood of Crafters is all about dots or stripes. I made a card today that has stripes.
This is my destination card for this week, a kitchen for K. I chose to use Yummy Mimi from Penny Black for my focal image. The greeting is from a Hero Arts set. I presented my daughter with a few pieces of paper and she suggested the stripes as they matched the colors in my image. The stripes are perfect for the Sisterhood of Crafters challenge.
Do you remember the 90’s? Life was busy in the 90’s. I took a trip with my childhood friend to Florida, bought my first car, got married, had children and several pets, bought a house and worked at my job. I am sure there were more things that happened in the 90’s, but those are highlights. You are wondering why I am taking a trip down memory lane…Well, I am the guest designer for the Retro Rubber Challenge and the theme is the 90’s!
You see it is a color challenge, so dig out those retro colors and give this challenge a try!
I chose Mimi going Extreme with her snowboarding. The stamp set is named Extreme Mimi. She is a wood block stamp with a date of 2012. The embossed background is from Stampin Up Scattered Sequins; it reminds me of snowflakes. I used Gina K/Thermoweb Stitched Ovals dies. To color Mimi, many waterbased markers came out of hiding: Island Indigo, Lost Lagoon, Pretty Peacock, Baked Brown Sugar, Ruby Red, Terracotta Tile (all retired), then I used alcohol markers for her face: Spectrum Noir FS2 with SU Light Pink Pirouette for the cheeks. The snow was colored with Copic BG70 and I outlined her with BG10. The waterbased markers were blended with a Tombow blender pen.
It was fun to bring the retro image back to life. I enjoyed finding the various colors to fit the challenge. Come join me and create a retro card!
I chose Penny Black Sweet Thing dated 2009 on the wood block. The greeting comes from Paper Smooches Sentiment Sampler which was released in 2011. I chose turquoise for the background, cupcake, and strip highlight; I like it with the bright pink tones. I used gems from retired Stampin Up colors. With a white gel pen, I was able to add brightness to the cupcake sprinkles. I enjoyed using the sketch. Join me in this challenge using older product you probably have on hand.
The main image is a woodblock stamp from Penny Black, Bees & Bunny, dated 2001. I colored it using alcohol markers like the sticker on the woodblock stamp. The greeting is illustrated by Claire Brennan, distributed by Gina K Designs, copyright 2017, Springtime Baskets. The patterned paper is Echo Park either a spring set or an Easter set; I have both and didn’t make a note telling me which set it came from.
I am entering this in the Retro Rubber Challenge of Anything Goes, Sweet Stampin’ Challenge Blog using a mood board, and Mod Squad Springtime Bunnies challenge.
This is the last day of class and I think it is my favorite. I love fun fold cards. She began her lesson with Slimline cards, then onto Gatefold cards, and lastly the W-Fold card. I will show a Gatefold card this time.
I am using cardstock that was cut and given to me. A couple of years ago, I watched a video and there was a giveaway for a card kit and all that was needed was a comment. I received the kit and the card she made. This kit has been sitting there waiting to be used, so today was the day. The card base is a pool color or a lighter blue. I found a patterned paper pad by Carta Bella that has this geometric print that I thought matched the card. I left an 1/8 inch border on the patterned paper pieces. I had the Penny Black floral set out and decided to add a floral to the front of the card. I used turquoise colors for the flower. I am fairly sure it is a daisy and for this card, it is a turquoise daisy. I stamped the same flower on the inside.
I plan to work on the W-Fold card next. That is a fold that I have never made before. I am thinking on what images should be on the card.
