Paper Dragonfly Creative Challenges #3

The challenge with Paper Dragonfly Creative Challenges #3 theme is Mardi Gras with the added dragonfly. I chose Mardi Gras colors of purple, green and gold. So thought my Spellbinders Fleur DeLis die would be appropriate and die cut the smallest die in green and purple and a glitter gold.

My dragonfly for this card is an unbranded die and was cut in a green/gold designer paper and layered on top of a purple die cut dragonfly. The sentiment is Gina K Designs Enjoyable Greetings Stamp & Die set. I think this card is growing on me!!! Not 100% yet especially since that top green layer is a little crooked 🙂 I can live with it and it’s better than horrible!!

Peace On Earth Christmas Challenge #11

For today’s card, I decided to play along with the Peace on Earth Anything Christmas Challenge and focused on the pile of candy canes on their mood board.

Using SimonSaysStamps’ Candy Cane Heart die, I embellished it with some stamps and dies from Catherine Pooler’s Stamp of Approval Candy Cane Lane set. My stripes are also Catherine Pooler’s Peppermint Stick background stamp with some Gina K Designs Cherry Red ink. GKD’s Christmas Pine ink was used for the holly leaves. Keeping my card very Christmas traditional I added layers of green to the die cut panels.

The ModSquad Challenge hosted by Judy is to create a card with blue and yellow to indicate support for Ukraine. For my card, I die cut a panel using Taylored Expressions Rays Pierce & Cut Plate, inked it with Distress Oxide inks in Squeezed Lemonade and Tumbled Glass. My sunflower was stamped, colored and die cut using Hero Arts Hero Florals stamp & cut set as is the bumblebee.

Four Seasons: March Spring Challenge

The Four Seasons challenges have changed to spring and it definitely felt like spring today however Wednesday we are expecting a wintry mix. The mixed up month of March can never make up her mind. I know technically it’s still winter and St. Patrick’s Day is technically in winter but I lightened up my card to makea shamrock spring card.

After die cutting a shamrock to use as a stencil, using Taylored Expressions Shamrocks stamp & stencil combo, I stamped and blended my image. The sentiment is from Gina K Designs Luck & Love card kit. After adding a few TE green pearls and a little green and gold splatter and two strips of gold, my card is complete.

Gorgeous Green! is the color challenge for the Colorful Options blog this month and what a lovely color it is. After watching Nichol Spohr’s post today of her alcohol ink background for the new Hero Arts add on stamps, I decided to use that technique for my gorgeous green card.

Using alcohol inks in envy, laguna and snow cap mixative on glossy photo paper, my background came together pretty nicely in my opinion. These techniques are usually a stretch for me but I did make a few backgrounds with my alcohol inks. Hardest part is waiting for the inks to dry. I carefully stamped my sentiments, one at a time, in versafine black onxy and then heat set with clear embossing powder. Hello is from a Gina K Designs set and the other is a miscellaneous dollar stamp. The jig is being performed by Tutti Designs “Playful Leprechauns” die which was cut three times, layered and off set. A shiny little shamrock embellishment completes my card today.

A fun mood board for inspiration but I opted to be inspired by the colors only.

Two Old Bats Halloween Challenge – March

The Fly movie came to mind for me with the March Anything Halloween Goes Two Old Bats Halloween Challenge this month. The original movie’s story line is the story of a scientist who is transformed into a grotesque creature after a common house fly enters unseen into a molecular transporter with which he is experimenting, resulting in his atoms being combined with those of the insect, which produces a human–fly hybrid. At the end the little fly with the scientist head cries: “help me”. OMG….my brother whispered those words at me for days after we watched that movie with our dad. Boys!!!

Back to my card, I created a frame using a Martha Stewart spider web punch and then die cut the middle section which includes a very cool piece of patterned paper from my stash to which I added some eyeballs and wink of stella. My stamp set is Inkadinkadoo’s Test Tubes. The specimen beaker was stamped in black and heat embossed in clear embossing powder on vellum paper. After adding some color to the back of the beaker I stamped and fussy cut my flies who seem to have escaped from the beaker.

Always fun to play along with the Two Old Bats challenge and their awesome mood board.

Double D Challenges: Something with Pockets

Channeling back to the 70’s with my card, washed out jeans, flower appliques, graduating from high school, Bicentennial celebration of USA is just a beginning of this important decade in my life so I’d thought I would reflect on it with my card today for the “pockets” challenge.

Using Taylored Expressions Burlap background stamp and Shades of Summer stamp and die set for my background, sentiment and shades. My pocket is an American Crafts fabric pocket that I found on clearance some time ago.

This was a fun challenge with a great mood board for inspiration.

I had some left over paper strips from a challenge and decided to make a few more floating card images. The top card was made using the left over pieces from my original posted floating card. It was quite a project putting dimensional pop dots on all of those little blocks. The stamped image was from a GKD stamp kit Luck & Love. I added a little wink of stella to make the image stems sparkle a little bit.

This card uses the same technique and a Cheery Lynn butterfly die cut in gold and a GKD sentiment stamped and heat embossed in gold embossing powder.

I knew if I didn’t use these extra strips they would be forgotten or ‘accidentally’ thrown away!!!! I did make the mistake of using clear cover cardstock which is very heavy and would not cut completely in my Big Shot. Next time it’s acetate all the way.

Anything Goes Embossing with a Twist of Think Spring! Can you handle the pressure? Sure can if it means spring is on it’s way. Playing along today with this new challenge to include an embossing folder. I decided on SSS Wild Flowers Field and opted to make the embossed panel colorful I added some, well pretty heavy handed, Nuvo Shimmer Powders in Atlantis Burst and Blue Blitz. I kind of forgot about ‘Less is More!’ so I dabbed on more color in wild dandelion and green apple inks to the flowers and greens. Hmmm….still not enough spring for me so I die cut SSS Etched Layered Daisy duo die and a little color popping up with dimensionals at places under the petals. Sentiment is a GKD sentiment strip. Now I’m ready for Spring.
