Apple Mixed Media Card

Sometimes I like to dive into Mixed Media. Each week on Splitcoast Stampers there is a Mix challenge. The challenge on Friday was to select apples or pumpkins and create a mixed media project with your favorite. I like both apples and pumpkins, but chose to create with apples.

I used the stamp set Apple Harvest by Stampin Up, which was released in July 2022 along with matching dies that were released in August 2022. To begin with my background, I use a Decorative Mask from the Abundant Beauty set, also Stampin Up. I generally call these stencils and this is a set of 6. I embossed the background with the herringbone stencil, then added Simon Hurley Solar Paste to part of the embossed panel. Then I decided to cut the scallop using a die. That was a mistake as it flattens the embossing. The pattern is still visible but it is not as raised as it was after I embossed it.

I colored the apple image with Prismacolor pencils and blended with Gamsol. I die cut the image. Then I added leaves and flowers. The flowers were colored with a bit of rose ink and a blending brush. I found gems in my stash to match the ink.

This card will be entered in the Retro Rubber Challenge: https://www.retrorubberchallengeblog.com/my-blog/2023/10/challenge-217-anything-goes.html

I enjoyed my dive into mixed media. I have been trying to use those supplies in my stash and I have quite a few pastes waiting to be used. Thanks for stopping by. I am involved in a swap for several weeks with the same person. This card will be headed to my swap partner this week.

  1. As always your colouring is amazing and I love the card design. I don’t think that the slightly flattened embossing detracts from the rest.

    1. Thank you! I can still see the design, it was just a bit more texture. Live and Learn and learn again…I remember after die cutting that I need to die cut first then emboss.

  2. Beautiful card Lisa. Love the layers and textures and again your amazing coloring. The scallop edge is the perfect finishing touch.

    1. Thank you! I haven’t colored with pencils in a long time, so it was fun to use them. I colored the same way I color with markers.

  3. Just gorgeous, Lisa – I so loved this set! Your delicate coloring is stunning, and I love that scallop edge! Thanks so much for playing at Retro Rubber!

    1. Thank you! It went in the mail today and it was a bit thick, so two stamps were used. I should invest in the extra ounce postage stamps.

    1. Thank you! I think I used too much foam as it was a bit thick. Next time, I will use less foam or use paper. Still fun to create.

    1. Thanks! I usually reach for alcohol markers, but thought I would branch out and use my pencils. It went well. I think they are not as vibrant as the markers, but they color the same.

  4. So fun that you did a mixed media card. It’s fun to try using different things and Bonnie gives such great examples of ways to use just about every media imaginable. This is a pretty card that I’m sure your swap person will love.
