Holiday Card Workshop 2022
Day 7’s sessions were all about embossing folders. Koren Wiskman’s session was Spotlight Ink Blending + Embossing Folders. Using SSS A2 Masks, I ink blended Distress Oxide inks in Twisted Citron, Mowed Lawn and Rustic Wilderness going from light in the center to dark outside. This panel was then run through my Big Shot (still working with protest — LOL) using SSS Holiday Greenery embossing folder. The die cut sentiment is Spellbinders and added a SSS Christmas Foilage die in red. The embossed panel is very subtle but it’s nice that the entire panel is embossed.
The “extra credit” session was presented by Laura Bassen in which to create an ink blended pattern + embossing folder. For this card, I went back to a Taylored Expressions Plaid stencil using DO Evergreen Bough, Festive Berries and Black Soot. My first thought was to use versamark and gold embossing powder on the black lines but I was too impatient to wait for the ink to dry so went with black soot.
The embossing folder is from Sizzix. I embossed a piece of white card stock and fussy cut the center section of this embossing folder and adhered it to my card front. The stamp set is AI Penguin Joy and how surprised was I when my upper and lower flourish nestled the sentiment very nicely. Using the same inks, I added color to the holly and berries.
A very traditional Christmas color day for me. I think I like the second plaid card the best and, wow, I actually think my lines look straight. It was a good day!

Yes, Bonnie, I absolutely should have been patient as the gold would have really made it pop. Patience is a virtue!
Your ink blending is wonderful. The embossing is very subtle, but adds nice texture. The plaid is amazing. A fine gold pen might work to add the touch of gold, but it’s lovely as it is.

I like both cards a lot and chuckled at your impatience. Makes me smile because I’m not patient either. Your plaid is great without gold but using a gold pen may help to add something if you really think it requires more.

These are both beautiful, Gayle! It’s fun to see the embossing through the inking. I haven’t had a chance to watch the class, yet. I’m looking forward to it now that I’ve seen your take on it.

Your embossed, ink-blended and stenciled backgrounds are so pretty. Both of your backgrounds look great, but adding the embossing really steps up the look and is so easy to do!
