I was stressing over a card to make for a surprise 80th birthday party. My husband said, “Well, you know he used to work on planes. Didn’t you say you had an airplane stamp?” That reminded me that I’d gotten the Fancy Airplane Die that was an add-on for the May 2020 My Monthly Hero Kit. Then I remembered a card Jennifer McGuire did, so I used her card for inspiration. I colored the plane with Copics: R37 and R27 with B0000 for the windshield and N7 for the tire. I used a silver Sharpie for the propeller section. I colored one to see how the colors would work together and that was a little messy. Then I colored what I thought was my final project, but when I tried to fix something, made it worse. Third time’s a charm. I cut two other planes to glue together for dimension – TIP: I was able to cut 3 planes out of a quarter piece of CS, but the last plane had a few tiny edges that ran into the previous cut – that was OK because I sandwiched that between the top and bottom layers. After assembling I used my markers to color the edges of the plane – if I were doing this again, I’d edge the uncolored pieces before gluing together. I used the Fancy Cloud die cut from white, then used the negative piece to use as a stencil to create clouds using Hero Arts Unicorn pigment ink on an Ocean Mist Card base. The sentiment is from Birthday Essentials by Newton’s Nook. It fit perfectly on the cloud and I didn’t have to worry about it being straight. On the inside I used a sentiment from the same set that says “Don’t think of it as being older, think of it as becoming a classic.” I’m entering this in the following challenges:

Oh how to have fun. Thanks for the tip, great way to save on precious paper. The red white and blue of it makes for a super guy creation.
Thanks Bonnie. It was definitely fun to make, but i felt rushed because I finished it right before it was time to leave for theparty.
Great Guy card! Love the colors you used!
Thanks Diana.
Fun card! Perfect for the aviator gentleman.
Thanks Lisa. I hope he likes it. We left before he opened his cards and gifts – it was an outdoor picnic and was very hot.
WOW!! Perfefect guy card, he will love it. I think all recipients love getting cards with a personalized theme.
Thanks Gerry. I like to tailor my cards to the recipient when I can.
Judy, this is awesome. I love the clouds you created from the die and so clever to use the negative pieces as a stencil. The airplane looks great and what a fun inside sentiment too. Happy birthday to your friend.
Thanks Gayle. The credit for the clouds goes to the amazing Jennifer McGuire.
Lovely choice for the 80th. I enjoyed the story about how you created this card. The clouds are fabulous. Thanks for sharing this with us at As You See It Challenge.
Thanks Jan. I often get inspiration reading how a card was created so I like to pay it forward
Judy, this is a wonderful card! I love how you colored your plane and all the details you put in on the card. So glad your husband said something that reminded you of just the right thing. It’s wonderful when that happens.
Thanks Golda. My husband is a real enabler when we go shopping at some of our local stores and he sometimes reminds me of sets I’d forgotten I had.
Judy, I love how you take such care with the details on your card! The clouds look amazing both die cut and stencilled! Great idea using the negative space from the die cut one as a template! The plane is a real focal point with the colour you chose! Thanks for applying the “Y” with us at As You See It Challenges!
Thanks so much for you lovely comment.
This looks great! Awesome masculine card for someone who worked on planes. Great coloring!
Thanks Lisa. I’m not sure why I bought the airplane – probably because Jennifer McGuire made me buy it – but it is cute and does have a lot of detail.
