Red, White and Blue

The inspiration photo at The Card Concept  challenge was loaded with patriotic images. I used our beautiful American Flag as my inspiration. My style always tends toward CAS, but I think according to the styles on The Card Concept website, this perhaps leans more toward Clean and Layered. Using the flag stencil from Simon Says Stamp, I brushed Red Velvet ink on the stripes. Then I placed the field of stars and brushed on VersaMark and embossed in white embossing powder. Using the emboss resist technique (a first for me) I brushed Blue Denim over the stars to create the field of blue and gently wiped the excess away with a paper towel. After I trimmed the flag I realized it was too large for an A2 card, so I decided to make a slim line card – another first for me. I stamped the eagle head from Divinity Designs in Warm Cocoa and fussy cut it. I used masking so I could stamp the sentiment, also from Divinity Designs in red and blue. I used Warm Cocoa to mat the flag and the sentiment.

  1. Love this patriotic card! The eagle image along with the flag and sentiment are perfect for our “Red, White and Blue” Challenge! Thanks for playing along with us at The Card Concept and we hope you can join us again soon!

    1. Thanks Lisa and what I didn’t mention was that all the items in this card were used for the first time.

  2. This came out great! That flag stencil is awesome, and you used it perfectly. Embossing the stars made them so crisp.
Always fun to try a new technique or two!! Love how you created your greeting in two colors and how you layered the panel on the flag. The Card Concept is a new site to me, and “The Styles Defined” info is pretty cool; love how they define all the styles so clearly and all in one place. Thanks for the “referral” on that!

    1. Thanks Lisa. I really do like that stencil and it was quite easy to use. I had actually done another sentiment that I was going to use, but it disappeared before it made it to the card, but I like how it ended up. The sentiment is actually covering up a place where the embossing powder sort of messed up a couple stars. Glad I could point you in the direction of a new challenge site.

  3. I agree with Bonnie – you should step out of your comfort zone more often. You created a perfect card using new techniques and great that it is patriotic too.

    1. Thanks Johanna. It is fun to try new things. Red White and Blue is always a fun combination to work with.
